Couldn't Take The Heat

So our female cat, Mara, went into heat 3 days ago. I found it to be repulsive how she was yowling and licking her ass until it was all glossy and greasy looking. And, ugh, all those freaky male cats were hanging outside our house waiting for a chance to score with their shimmery night eyes and disguises. I don't know why, but all this excessive hormonal behavior turned my stomach in such a way that it was intolerable after by mid day 2. What I'm about to say is something I'm not proud of, but she truly was never a solid part of the family and was always finicky and didn't like to be touched and blah blah blah, I'm trying to make myself feel better about it, ok, what we did was GIVE HER AWAY. Yea, that's right, judge me all you want! I was repulsed by her greasy yowly ass so I decided it was time for her to hit the road. The process of being "in heat" only lasts for about 7 to 10 days, so I could have stuck it out, but all considerations of "sticking it out" were thrown out once she scratched the shit out of Richard and ran outside and a male cat stuck it in. I don't want kittens. Kittens aren't kittens for very long and then you feed 'em, buy cat litter, change cat litter... Wait, wait, wait. I think we're getting into something deeper here. Does this explain my irrational fear of having children? Not going there. Bottom line? Britt: 1, Sadistic Cat: 0. (Well, 0+ about 8 kittens.)

The Jogger & Her Bacon

Yes, I am finally doing something. My legs move for an extended period of time and I get winded. So far I haven't missed a night of jogging/exercising (aside from the weekends which I've reserved for myself). It's actually kinda cool to dedicate to something and not peter out on it right away. I run about a mile every M-Th, unless I'm doing DDR, then I do 4 rounds of the "workout mode" for 30 minutes. It feels good to sweat, even though my already easily red face really burns and feels like my melon is about to explode for awhile. I think it's just because I'm not used to doing anything physical.
After a jog about a week ago, Richard asked me if I might like a post jog snack, to which I eagerly replied Yes! Yes I would!
"Would it be a little overkill if we had bacon two nights in a row?"
"But wouldn't it be a little self defeating if you had a bacon snack right after a jog?"
"I'm not seeing the connection here."
"Well, you just went on a jog to be more healthy, yet bacon is extremely bad for you, especially right before bed."
"Bacon is delicious."
"Ah. So, bacon then?"

A Typical Sunday Afternoon

[Enter fly buzzing around the room.]

Me: "Richard! Grab a cat! Come quick!"
Him: "Huh?"
Me: "I said grab a cat, and hurry!"

[Enter Richard with cat 1]

Him: "What?"
Me: "Let him go! There's a fly!"

[Cat 1 is released and chases/bats fly entertainingly, but refuses to kill new buzzing toy]

[Richard dashes for other more sadistic cat, releases her and Cat 1 is removed from the room]

[Cat 2 chases fly and entertains us with her tiny paws batting for at least 10-15 minutes, then finally eats fly]

Happy Birthday, AZ!

My friends in Rainbow Valley are throwing a party celebrating "Arizona Statehood Day." One more reason to love the crazy bastards.

Bisbee Clusterfuck

I took this picture, again, while in Bisbee. I think the power lines give it some super interesting details. It makes my eyes wander all over the place. If only the camera hadn't processed that light all weird at the top left. Cest la vie. It's still an interesting photo.

Food Tattoos

Check out these food tattoos. I don't know why but I find them hilarious!

I recently finished reading Frank McCourt's three memoirs, Angela's Ashes, 'Tis and Teacher Man. Frank McCourt came up with one of my favorite quotes ever, "I know the best deadly sin. And what do you think that is? Sloth, because that means laziness. And if you're not doing anything, you won't commit any of the other deadly sins."
I think I have mastered the art of sloth. Perhaps it's time to move on to something a little more active.

TV Rots Your Brain

Ok, so I will admit that I can go a bit overboard on television from time to time. There is a show on called...well, I can't remember what it's called, but it's about these models that think they're being judged on their outer beauty, but they are actually being put through little tests to show their inner beauty. I think all the people we look up to should have to go through this same type of test unknowingly. I don't want to purchase merchandise or admire people I don't know anything about aside from what they say on the red carpet or on their albums. People can be real douche bags and I hate to put my dough in the pocket of a douche bag. I suppose it's like we're using each other really, I'm getting their product, they're getting my money..if only I could be the rich one in this scenario.
Anywho, not the greatest show in the world, but I think the concept is interesting. I like knowing what people do behind the scenes. I'm a very "behind the scenes" kinda gal. The spotlight is no place for me. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy that I know I would pass all their little tests so far. Hooray for integrity.

I own underwear with little pictures of different types of sushi on them. I wore them today because I knew I was going for sushi. The world was at peace, if only for a moment.

Crumbling Mystery Man

When Richie and I went to Bisbee last year there was some pretty sweet graffiti on these crumbling buildings. This mans face looks familiar to me. Who is he?

New Slang & Wanderlust

I was listening to a great song by The Shins, New Slang. If you've never heard it and don't know the lyrics (weird shit), you would likely feel the feeling I do when I think of my mom, the wanderlust. She's in her early 40's and has totally destroyed her body and most of her relationships with the people she knows and loves due to a whole list of addictions. I don't know how she got us to hang on when she let go, but it's like a feeling of not wanting to care or hope or waste your time but you still find yourself there, wanting and feeling and hoping for that free bird to change. Anyway, good song and I feel like it goes with her picture here.

For the Pisces

It's February! May the dreamers [Pisces] unite! I am the only odd sign out of all my brothers and sister. They are the fishies, the Pisces, and I am the Scorpio. Glad I was the eldest, I was able to channel their little dreams when we were young and unsure and poorly brooded by our madre. I am exceptionally fortunate to have a hell of a family, all of my siblings are amazing unexpected charismatic people. The little pissers. I know it's a little early in the month, but here's to you, Pisces!
